When you are in a foreign country, you have to ask a lot of questions to find out information about various things. The way you speak (what kind of language you use) depends on the situation you are in. If the situation is formal you use formal language. If the situation is informal you use informal language. If the situation is neither very formal nor very informal you use neutral language.
1) What kind of situations is the foreigner in: formal, informal or neutral?
— Could you tell me where the station is, please?
— Yes, it’s over there, on the left.
