British people shake hands when they meet someone for the first time. But I think when they greet people they know well, they kiss them on the chick or give them a hug. British people like their privacy, so not all topics are safe for small talk. I think, small topics to talk with British person are family, films television, sport, animals, food or hobbies. British person might say «come and see me soon» or «drop in anytime», but I think you must always phone before you visit someone. Also it’ll be a good idea if you take a gift for you hosts like as a bottle of wine, bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates.
